  1. Coffee

You do not have to drink coffee for breakfast or lunch; you can instead choose to drink green tea or sugar free hot cocoa. But you must make sure that you do not add any sweetener, sugar, or milk.

There unfortunately really isn’t a substitute for grapefruit as it has very specific nutritional benefits. You must try and eat grapefruit when it is required on one of the three days. You could have a teaspoon of baking soda dissolved in a glass of water if you prefer.

If you are allergic to peanuts you can have another nut butter. These include cashew butter, sunflower butter, and almond butter. Any would make a good substitution.

  1. Tuna

When it asks for tuna and you hate seafood you can substitute another very lean protein source such as chicken or turkey. Just make sure that you are within the overall calorie count. If you are vegan or vegetarian you can choose nuts, beans, tofu, or cottage cheese.

  1. Meat

If you do not eat meat you can substitute meat for complete protein such as tofu. But remember that you need to keep up with the protein intake whichever source it comes from as this is important for helping keep you feeling full.

Eggs feature heavily in the military diet but if you cannot eat them you can try a cup of milk, or have a small cup of nuts and seeds.

If you cannot or will not eat bread then you can substitute sunflower seeds, whole grain cereal, a small protein bar, or a small cup of yogurt with flax seeds.
