Where to Learn About Health Insurance?
Many people do not have adequate knowledge about health insurance. Health is part of or daily life and everybody should have clear idea about health insurance. Many people just go to health insurance company office or call an agent and sign up for a health insurance, without knowing if he/she is adequately covered. This is not a good idea. If you do not have adequate knowledge about a health insurance, it is important to learn about it. There are three different but important sources where you can learn about health insurance, namely internet, your family and friends and trusted agent/broker on health insurance. Or you can buy a book on health insurance and learn from it.
Family and friends:
In fact when we do not know something, we try to learn about it from friends and family members. If you are young and have very little idea about health insurance, your friends and family members can give you good information on health insurance. Family members and friends do not mean your teenage relative (e.g. 19 year old cousin) or a friend who got employed recently. You should ask older people in their forties and fifties and who actually have health insurance coverage.
Internet for learning about health insurance:
This is one of the best sources to learn about health insurance. Websites such as this Health Blog, and many other websites, including Government websites on health insurance can easily be found in internet to learn about health insurance. Type “health insurance” in Google and you will come across dozens of websites giving you the information you need on health insurance. You can also get health insurance quotes and buy health insurance online, which makes it easier to buy health insurance. If you do not get adequate information on health insurance from your family and friends, internet is the best place to find out.
Trusted agent/broker on health insurance:
You can call and ask local insurance broker for more information on health insurance, before buying health insurance. Your local broker can give you the actual position of different health insurance plans, which you can compare and by what you need. But, do not forget one thing, your broker is a salesperson and his/her main aim is to sell health insurance plan to you, so you may not get the actual information you need.
Out of the three information sources mentioned above, internet is the best source, where you can find any information you need on health insurance. But make sure that the website giving you the information is trustworthy. To be sure of trustworthy information, better use Government run websites (not surprising that Google gives more trust to Govt. sites).
