Three Important Reasons to Quit Smoking
If you are a smoker and want to quit smoking you must have one or more very strong reasons why you need to quit. Different smokers have different reasons to quit smoking and your reason(s) may be different and personal from others. I am not a smoker, but I have seen smokers from very close quarters. My mom was a chronic smoker, she used to smoke hukka (an Indian way of smoking with a bamboo pipe) and not cigarettes. She was unable to quit smoking, despite trying several times. Finally she was able to quit when she was diagnosed with cervical cancer. My mom is no more, but I am highlighting the example of my mom, to tell readers/visitors of my blog, that sometimes a strong reason can help you quit smoking. Diagnosis of cervical cancer was the reason strong enough for my mom to quit smoking. You also may need very strong and personal reason to quit smoking.
So find out what is a strong reason for you to quit smoking, which may be very personal to you only. If you can find out a reason strong enough, you will be able to quit smoking permanently. There are several strong reason (depending on the smoker) and I consider economic (high price of cigarettes due to higher taxes), looking older than your age (at least for females) and smoking is no more considered “cool†(for may men who smoke to look cool) are the strong enough reasons to quit smoking.
The price of smoking:
The cost of cigarettes has skyrocketed in past one decade as the governments across the world started levying different taxes to the tobacco products. The tobacco companies are also increasing the price as they are loosing more and more lawsuits. On an average a pack of cigarettes may cost between $5-$10 that is $150-$300 per month, a big sum to waste for nothing. People are becoming economically smarter day by day and do not want to waste money.
Look older than your age due to smoke:
You may be 30 years of age, but may look like 35-40 years of age if you are smoking for 10 years or more regularly. If you want to do plastic surgery the plastic surgeon may charge you more fees and sometimes may even refuse, as smokers higher complications and healing takes longer than a non smoker. A doctor will think carefully and think twice to operate on a chain smoker. Smokers look older than their age because smoking robs the smoker of the much needed oxygen, which the cells of skin uses.
Smoking is no longer “cool†stuff:
Smoking is no longer considered cool. Gone are those days when a guy with leather jacket and slicked back hair and a cigarette dangling out of his mouth was considered very “coolâ€, instead these days these type of guys are considered as ignorant losers. Non smokers also consider smokers as less educated who lack class and sophistication.
