Innovation in Healthcare is Revolutionizing Healthcare

Do you suffer from chronic severe headache or migraine or facial pain? Your doctor may tell you to take an aspirin or such medicine and contact/visit him/her next day. If you are in such a situation than what is known as “electronic aspirin” can come to your rescue. “Electronic aspirin” is not commonly used medicine aspirin (acetyl salicylic acid), but an electronic device that blocks SPG (sphenopalatine ganglion), a facial nerve bundle that is responsible for severe chronic facial pain and various types of chronic headache. The small electronic device (electronic aspirin) is implanted permanently in upper gum. When the patient sense that he/she is going to get headache or facial pain, the patient than places a handheld remote near the implant that stimulate the SPG nerve and block pain causing neurotransmitters. This is the importance of innovation in medical and healthcare.

Innovation is very important in most fields, including healthcare. Innovation in healthcare in various important healthcare devices such as blood sugar testing kit or glucometer that can be used by the diabetic patient himself/herself to check blood sugar level at home is a classic example of healthcare innovation, which is extremely useful for patient care.

Another important innovation in healthcare is portable gluten sensor. Millions of people across the globe suffer from celiac disease, who cannot tolerate gluten in food commonly found in common staple food such as wheat. If you have celiac disease, you tend to have various gastrointestinal problems on consumption of food containing gluten. Portable gluten sensor works in a simple way. Just put some food or drink to be tested in a capsule and place the capsule in the portable sensor and within a minute or two you get the result. The portable gluten sensor can detect gluten as low as 20 ppm (part per million). Hence, this is a very good innovation for celiac disease patients.

These days healthcare system has become innovative. We can see it in every walk of life, from home pregnancy test kit to diabetes care to 3-D printing of various medical equipments such as casts that contain in-built sensors/electronic devices that allow your doctor to know condition of your problematic legs from anywhere in the world. We can say innovation in healthcare is everywhere.

However, innovation in healthcare should not be restricted to medical devices only and it is not restricted to medical devices. Innovation in healthcare furniture and fittings as well as in every walk of life is also taking place.

Innovation is incomplete without helping aged and disabled (less abled) individuals. You can find innovative products such as wheelchair lifting platforms , wheelchair access ramps, kitchens that are accessible and usable by wheelchair bound individuals.

You can find all sorts of innovative systems for bathrooms (such as shower seat, use of toilet support, washbasin that is usable by disabled individuals etc.), kitchens, for bariatric care (such as incontinence sheet, bariatric sling, horizontal lifting equipment, positioning pillows etc.) as well as other important and useful home appliances for disabled persons, patients and elderly individuals.
