But sometimes when we wake up at 6 am to hit the gym before work or shunning the donuts in breakfast, it’s easy to lose sight of for what are we doing all these. So here are some top articles choices that can keep you motivated to lead a healthy lifestyle and keep diseases at bay.

Why First Aid in Various Medical Conditions

First aid is means provision of the first medical care in certain cases of injuries or illnesses, by a person trained in first aid. First aid is generally provided by individuals not expert in medical care (i.e. they are not doctor, nurse or any medical personnel), but trained in first aid provision. As a citizen, we all should have basic ideas about first aid. To get basic and practical knowledge you can learn first aid from various institutes that offer first aid courses online. It is not possible for a medical expert to be present in every situation (e.g. in case of accident site or at home where a person may suddenly become ill), that is why we all should have basic knowledge about providing first aid and at the same time all home and all vehicles should have first aid kit available.

Why first aid?

First aid is essential in certain medical emergencies or injuries, where provision of first aid can save life or limb of an individual, before doctors can provide definite medical attention/care. First aid provision is aimed for the following:

  • Save life and limbs: this is the most important aim of providing first aid. By providing prompt and effective first aid, it is possible to save lives as well as limbs (in case of injuries such as in road traffic accident or in case or war).
  • Prevent further deterioration of condition: by providing first aid, we can prevent further deterioration of condition. For example, apply pressure to stop bleeding in case of accidents, can prevent from excessive blood loss and further deterioration.
  • Prompt and effective provision of first aid can promote recovery and/or healing.

The basic skill a person need to know while learning first aid is known as “ABC”, which is Airway, Breathing and Circulation. The first aim of a first aid provider is to ensure that airway is patent. After making sure that airway is patent, breathing is established, if required by rescue breathing. Circulation is than checked by pulse rate, chest compression done if required to provide artificial circulation, if there is any disturbance in circulation of blood.

Here are some conditions that commonly require first aid for better outcome:

  • Wounds and bleeding wounds
  • Fracture of bones
  • Burns
  • Chocking
  • Cardiac arrest
  • Myocardial infarction (providing first aid within an hour, known as golden hour is important)
  • In the battlefield or in any bomb blast site
  • Drowning
  • Asphyxia due to smoke or any other cause
  • Heat syncope, heat stroke or sun stroke
  • Hypothermia and hyperthermia
  • Animal bite
  • Insect bite (e.g. honey bee, wasp, spider)
  • Snake bite
  • Hyperglycemia (prompt administration of insulin, preferably intravenous insulin) and hypoglycemia (provide glucose and rest)
  • Poisoning
  • Seizure and epilepsy
  • Dislocation of joint
  • Severe allergy or anaphylaxis

There are many more conditions where provision of prompt first aid can make a great difference in the final outcome of the medical condition. Generally all of the medical emergencies require first aid and if first aid can be provided at the earliest it can greatly influence the outcome.
