Weight Loss? Yes We Dukan!

Weight Loss? Yes We Dukan!

We know by now that we need to eat the right foods, need to work out, and do stuff that is healthy for us. Because maintaining good health does not happen by accident, it requires work and smart lifestyle choices. But sometimes when we wake up at 6 am to hit the gym before work or shunning the donuts in breakfast, it’s easy to lose sight of for what are we doing all these. So here are some top articles choices that can keep you motivated to lead a healthy lifestyle and keep diseases at bay.

Weight Loss? Yes We Dukan!

, Weight Loss? Yes We Dukan!Over the past few decades America has been getting more and more out of shape. From supersizing and dollar meals to the recent trend of glorifying waste through massive concoctions from some of the unhealthiest foods out there it is mostly our diet that is slowly causing our collective waistline to grow. And while putting on weight is quite easy with a lot of the high-calorie foods that have become part of our daily diet and a lot easier with fast food and glorified excess, taking those pounds back off is very hard, especially as for a lot of people there’s no incentive. There are, of course efforts to thin America’s waistline, especially by promoting healthy lifestyles amongst the younger generation but with an aging population and with a good bit of the current generation overweight or obese the efforts to combat obesity should greatly increase.

Why Stay Fit?

Of course there are actual, legitimate health reasons for staying fit. From type 2 diabetes to back pain, being overweight is a main cause in a good deal of different diseases and afflictions as well as the biggest aggravating factor in a host of others. Unfortunately, a reduced lifespan and a higher risk for disease isn’t the only issue that arises from obesity. Obese people are likely to have a lower income because of  the costs associated with the medical issues above, and they are a lot less likely to find a job, as obesity is seen as both a taboo and an insurance liability. So there really is quite a bit of wisdom, financial as well as medical, in losing weight.

How do I Lose?

The problem, however is that dieting is quite hard, both physically and psychologically. Even contestants on game shows like ‘The Biggest Loser’ find exercising on their own a chore and weight maintenance quite difficult overall. Plus, not everybody is cut out to run 10 k a day, nor do a lot of overweight men and women want to lose weight bad enough to follow a strict training regimen. Diets, harsh diets in particular, are also hard to ‘sell’. So in order for a lot of people to lose weight a simple and easily manageable diet is necessary. The equivalent of an easy diet in the field of exercising is the couch to 5K program, which promises to turn couch potatoes into runners in less than two months and a half.

Diets, Diets Everywhere

There are quite a few diets out there , ranging from “caveman” to vegan and most of the ‘name brand’ diets are quite good. Consider a diet like the Bistro MD—there is a ton of info about it online, to help you get started. Such diets even manage to add a bit of class to the pre-packaged foods business by serving some premium meals and adding tasty deserts as well, with the downside of the whole affair being a bit on the expensive  side. Some other diets work by completely eliminating a  nutrient class, usually carbohydrates. The Atkins diet is the most famous of these ‘no-carb’ diets and is still popular after all these years. The Dukan diet, is also a low carb diet, with a different outlook on weight loss that make it a rising star in Hollywood circles today.

The Dukan Diet

Although the diet was first devised in 1975 by Pierre Dukan, the 30 year old diet only found mainstream acceptance circa 2000 after a book on the subject was published in English. The Diet is a pretty simple affair that at first closely resembles the Atkins diet. However, whereas Atkins is focused on eliminating carbs entirely, Dukan is all about replacing everything with copious amount of proteins. Protein rich foods are all that dieters are allowed to eat initially with food items slowly being reintroduced as the diet continues. The initial phase of the diet is quite hard but once vegetables and ‘good carbs’ like fruit are re-introduced the dieter gets several ‘prize meals’ a month, to keep cravings under control. This is perhaps the most important fact about the diet. It still allows you to eat portion controlled favourites making the 2 lbs a week gruelling weight loss pace bearable. Easier to keep than the Atkins diet and with long term maintenance as its true, laid out goal, the Dukan diet is perfect for the laid back dieters of the modern age.

So there you have it: the Dukan diet is a quick and dirty way of losing weight without a lot of stress and the perfect tool to take America’s belt size down a notch. If you’re overweigh, or worse, give it a whirl. You won’t regret the decision.
