So here are some top articles choices that can keep you motivated to lead a healthy lifestyle and keep diseases at bay.

Ten Habits That Make You Obese

There are several common habits many of us have, which can make you obese or overweight. So, watch out the habits that can make you overweight or obese and ideally avoid them to remain fit.

  1. Eating too fast: Many of us have habit of eating too fast, may be because we are too busy, as we live in fast-paced world. If you eat too fast, you end up eating too much rapidly, before you realize that you have eaten too much. Our brain takes 15 to 20 minutes to signal feeling of fullness of stomach; hence if you finish your meal in less than 15-20 minutes, you may have ended eating extra. Eating fast is a risk factor of metabolic syndrome, which is combination of obesity, hypertension and insulin resistance (lead to diabetes). So, take your own time and eat slowly and enjoy the meal and get satisfaction of eating and at the same time avoid obesity.
  2. Love for fast food: if you love fast food, the risk of obesity is very high. In fact. Popularity of fast food is one of the important/major causes of increasing obesity. Fast foods contain high fat and calories and make you obese.
  3. Your friend circle can make you obese. If you have friend who are fond of eating fast food, you may also end up eating them when in their company and many such habits, that your obese friends have. Some scientists are accepting obesity as socially contagious.
  4. Using credit card too often: study by VISA, found that people paying bills at restaurants using credit card spend average 30% more than people paying in cash, which end p adding more food and more calories. So, when you go to restaurant next time do not forget to pay cash.
  5. Lack of adequate sleep: sleeping less than adequate can cause various chemical imbalances in our body and make you obese. Lack of sleep increase ghrelin (which boost appetite) and reduce leptin, which suppress appetite. Hence, sleep well.
  6. Not being aware of calories you eat with every serving of food is another important cause of obesity. Being unaware of calorie count in most commonly eaten foods can make you eating high calories without your knowledge and cause obesity.
  7. Do not eat to manage your bad feelings. If you have habit of eating when stressed, avoid it. Avoid munching some snacks absent mindedly when you are stressed. Emotional eating can make you obese.
  8. If you do not check your body weight regularly, you are at greater risk of obesity. People checking their body weight regularly are likely to reduce weight than people not checking at all. Have your weighing scale at home and use it daily to control body weight.
  9. If you are too busy, you are at risk of obesity. Exercise (physical activity) is certainly the most important factor in obesity along with diet. Body weight depends on two things calorie intake (foods and drinks you take daily) and calorie output (by way of physical activity and basal metabolic rate or BMR). Ideally the intake and output of calories should be equal to keep body weight ideal. However, human body physiology can adapt to great variation of intake and output of calories (i.e. calorie variation usually do not cause obesity or underweight, unless the difference of calorie intake and output is very great). Despite this great physiological advantage, obesity is now epidemic in most of the regions of the world.
  10. Watching TV: last but not the least, watching TV is an important factor of obesity. During watching TV, you are virtually sitting still and spend very few calories. If you watch TV for 2 hours daily, you are at greater risk of obesity than a person who watches TV for only 30 minutes a day. You spend 20-30 calories less energy every hour during watching TV, which accounts for obesity.

Avoid the above ten habits (bad habits) and remain fit, physically and mentally, by keeping obesity and overweight at bay.
