As thee condition may not be cured by treatment, the aim of treatment (management) of dandruff should be to control the condition, so that it does not give any trouble to the sufferer.

The main cause of dandruff is excess and rapid turnover of skin cells of scalp, overproduction of sebum in scalp which results in formation of flakes and infection of the scalp by yeast/fungus, which cause itching and other symptoms of dandruff.

There are several home/natural remedies for dandruff such as tea tree oil, biotin, apple cider vinegar etc. to name a few.

Tea tree oil for dandruff:

Tea tree oil has antiseptic and antifungal properties and used for centuries for these properties. There are several tea tree oil products available in the market and there are several reports that tea tree oil shampoo is useful in controlling dandruff. Tea tree oil based shampoos can reduce severity of mild to moderate dandruff and symptoms associated with it. Use of shampoos containing 5% tea tree oil can significantly reduce dandruff and its symptoms.

Biotin for dandruff:

Biotin belongs to vitamin B complex group and it is water soluble (like all B complex vitamins). Biotin is useful in breaking down fats, proteins and carbohydrates. Using shampoos containing biotin is useful in controlling severity of dandruff. Eating foods with high biotin content is also helpful. Foods with high biotin content are eggs, liver, milk, soy yeast etc.

Apple cider vinegar for dandruff:

This is a good home remedy for dandruff. Take half cup of water and apple cider vinegar at 1:1 ratio and put the mixture in a spray bottle. Spray the mixture on your hair and scalp and wrap your head for 20-30 minutes and wash your hair while taking bath. Do it two to three times a week, which can help in controlling your dandruff.
