Avoid dairy foods while breastfeeding:

Certain dairy products, if consumed in excess by the mother may cause colic in the infant. Therefore, it is important to avoid eating too much dairy products as well as milk, if you are breastfeeding.

Avoid citrus fruits while breastfeeding:

Fruits are important for women who are breastfeeding. The high amount of acid (such as vitamin C) present in citrus fruits (such as lemon, orange, pineapple etc.) can cause stomach upset in the baby. If you eat citrus fruits, eat small quantity and watch for any problem in the baby.

An average drink takes approximately two hours to clear from your body system. Hence, the mother should do breastfeeding at least two hours after taking a drink.

Avoid caffeine while breastfeeding:

If breastfeeding mother drinks excess caffeine, it may disturb sleep of the baby. Adequate sleep is important for optimal growth and development of babies. Make sure your baby get adequate sleep. Caffeine may also cause irritability in the baby. Avoid excess, chocolate (with caffeine), tea or coffee.

Trans-fat and saturated fats:

Trans fat and saturated fats are not good for health of the mother and they are neither good for the health of the baby. Trans fat and saturated fats, if present in the food of the breastfeeding mother may reduce production of omega-3 fatty acids in the baby. Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for proper growth and development of the baby.

In the opinion of the author, it is more important to know about the foods that can be harmful to the baby if consumed by breastfeeding mother, that knowing about foods to eat while breastfeeding.
