Banana is cultivated widely in most of the countries (more than 100 countries) across the world and it the second most commonly cultivated fruit in the world, only after apple. There are dozens of different verities of bananas cultivated and all are rich in nutrients. In many countries banana is the most commonly consumed fruit.

Bananas have positive health effects for various medical conditions such as hypertension, asthma, diabetes, cancer, heart health, diarrhea etc. Bananas are also good for memory, hence, students should consume banana on regular basis.

Hypertension and banana:

high blood pressure is a common problem these days de to lack of physical activity and obesity. Eating banana regularly can be of great help in maintaining normal blood pressure. One of the reason of ability of banana in controlling blood pressure is that bananas contain no or very little sodium in it but bananas are very rich in potassium content. Low sodium intake is key to keeping blood pressure low. The recommended daily potassium intake 4700 mg and an average banana contain approximately 500 mg of potassium. Hence, eating a few bananas daily can help us get the recommended daily potassium intake of 4700 mg.

Asthma:

A study in UK found that, children who consumed just one banana a day had approximately 1/3rd lower risk of developing asthma.

Heart health and banana:

Banana is rich source of potassium, vitamin C, vitamin B6, other vitamins and minerals and rich in fiber. All of these are very good for positive heart health. A high potassium intake and reduced sodium intake as seen with regular eating of banana is the most important positive step for reduction of heart problems and hypertension and other cardiovascular problems. Consumption of high potassium is an important factor in reducing the risk of stroke and heart attack.

Cancer and banana:

Studies have shown that regular consumption (especially during first two years of life) of banana and orange reduce risk of leukemia among children (childhood leukemia). Regular intake of banana can reduce risk of colorectal cancer.

Diarrhea and banana:

Diarrhea patients benefits from consuming banana and other bland diet. In diarrhea huge amount of electrolytes (sodium, potassium etc.) are lost and the lost potassium can easily be replaced by eating banana, which contain good amount of potassium. Sodium replacement is easy, as common salt contain sodium.

Memory:

Bananas contain tryptophan, an amino acid, which is a known preserver of memory.

So, eat at least one average size banana daily and keep the doctor away.
