Stress also arises from day to day both at work and within the family. A certain amount of stress is healthy – it helps to increase productivity and performance- so you need a certain amount of stress to function well. This is healthy stress, or eustress. Increased stress over a prolonged period, however, will begin to affect your body and mind negatively. Not only will excessive stress or distress decrease your performance, it will also become a drain on your immune system, leaving you susceptible to illness.

Meditation for Relieving Stress

Meditation can be a valuable tool for promoting physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. Although you may not realize, meditation is a simple practice to learn and does not have to take up much of your time in order for you to reap the full benefits.

Making Time to Meditate

The best way to meditate is to start by setting aside some time every day. It’s best if you meditate at the same time each day, whether you choose the evening or the early morning is up to you. Meditating on a regular basis will help to keep stress levels at a minimum. You will probably find it easiest to start with 10-15 minutes per day so that you can focus and can avoid becoming distracted. Whether you meditate indoors or outdoors, each can have benefits of their own. The important thing is to find a space in which you are comfortable and will not be disturbed. Avoid distractions, such as the television or phone and make sure that no one is going to interrupt your meditation session.

Let it All Go

They key to meditation is relaxing and letting all your concerns slip away. Progressive relaxation techniques, in which you relax each part of your body at a time until all your tension has slipped away, is a great way to start. Inhale and exhale deeply through your nose and listen to the flow of your breathing. Slow down your thinking so that you can focus on just one thing at a time. Once you have mastered this technique, then you can begin to eliminate everything from your mind. If you’re feeling stressed but you’re not in a comfortable place to meditate, use this coloring book app, it will have the same calming effects as a meditation session.

Recharging Exercise

Find a relaxing spot in your home. Surround yourself with comforting items such as incense, pictures, and soft cushions. If it helps you to relax play some gentle music. These things will all add to your meditation experience and help you slip into the right mode each time you work through your exercises. Sit or lie in a relaxed position, with your posture straight and breathe regularly. Each time you inhale, feel the fresh air being brawn into your body. Visualize your blood being charged with vitality and courses bright red, from your lungs throughout your body. Feel this renewed energy radiating outward from your chest each time you inhale until your whole body is radiating with new energy.
