The habit of smoking is evil and we all (at least most of us) are aware of it and I must say that chain smoking is more evil than chronic alcoholism, as alcoholism will harm the health and well being of alcoholic only, but smoking can harm others too and nobody has right to harm others (you may harm yourself if you wish). Unfortunately many smokers fail to give up smoking due to various reasons, despite trying even more than once. There are many effective ways to quit smoking, although what works for one individual may nor work for other. the effectiveness of different methods also vary. The list of different quit smoking ways is pretty long and include along with many is laser therapy for quitting smoking.

In modern time we all want to do everything (including quitting smoking) easily and many of us are not ready to go through troubles, even for giving up something which is injurious to health and well being of not only the person, but to the near and dear ones of the individual.

Non Health Reasons for Quitting Smoking

Health reasons or ill effects of smoking on health and well being of the smoker is the main reason for quitting smoking. But there are also other reasons to quit smoking, other than health reasons, and these non health reasons may become the main motivation for quitting smoking, at least in some smokers. The important non health reasons of quitting smoking include money (most likely the major nor health reason), family, physical benefits, reproduction etc.

Money: This is probably the most important reason many smokers want to quit and next only to health reason. The financial burden smoking can cause can be substantial, especially to the poor and middle class and theses days of global financial recession and economic slowdown. For example, a pack of cigarettes cost approximately $5, and if you smoke a pack every day, it is $150 a month and $1800 a year, going up in smoke, a substantial amount to be considered. There are also other financial burdens of smoking, such as higher “health insurance” premium, and higher risk of illness, which will cost you (the smoker) dear.

Dental Caries: an Understanding

What is the commonest disease in the world ? This is a question quite tricky, not easy to answer and the answer is not obesity, heart disease or diabetes. It is dental caries. Tooth decay or caries occurs in a staggering 98 per cent of the world’s population. Age is no bar for dental caries and cavities can occur in childhood in the deciduous (milk) teeth as well. In adults cavities usually appear in the early twenties.

Unfortunately, cavities or dental caries is not symptomatic in the early stages. There may only be pots in teeth that are detected during a regular dental check-up, which is generally not many taken seriously, a very sad thing. The diagnosis may be established at that time by probing the enamel surface or with an X-ray. As the cavity progresses, there may be pain or tooth sensitivity while eating or drinking sweet, hot or cold items. Discolored pits may form which finally leads to pus formation around a tooth.

Late Postoperative Complications of Lasik

The late postoperative complication of lasik eye surgery are generally longer lasting complications and there are several potential late post operative complications of lasik eye surgery. Some of the late postoperative complications of lasik eye surgery are epithelial growth, chronic dry eye, halos around bright light, glare, traumatic dislocation of flaps etc.

Chronic or persistent dry eye after lasik eye surgery generally occur if more than 70% of the nerve fibers supplying cornea are severed (cut) during lasik eye surgery. In some patients the severed nerve fibers may never recover and lead to permanent dry eye and in this situation patient will require use of artificial tear lifelong, which can be troublesome in day to day activities.
