Know Symptoms of Nicotine Overdose

Smoking and chewing tobacco is an age old practice and it is not easy to give up smoking easily as smoking becomes part of the lifestyle of the smoker and removing a lifestyle may not be easy. Although nicotine is a substance of abuse, it has many medicinal properties.

If you are a smoker, you should have knowledge about the problems smoking can cause, which are due mainly to nicotine and its overdose. Even if you are not planning to quit smoking, you should have clear idea what nicotine overdose can cause. We all are aware about the ill effects nicotine (smoking) can cause to long time smokers, such as lung cancer (and cancer in many other organs), bronchitis, asthma, COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) and many other respiratory diseases, but only few of the smokers are aware of the acute problems, generally due to nicotine overdose smoking can cause.   • Insomnia, anxiety, panic attacks, cold sweats, confusion, depression, seizures.
  • Nausea, vomiting,
  • Headache, dizziness, chest pain
  • High pulse rate (palpitation), hypertension.
  • Diarrhea, stomach aches, loss of appetite, generalized weakness.
  • Hearing problem, vision problem.

If you are planning to quit smoking with help of medication, where the major medication is judicious use of nicotine, you should always inform your physician if you have any aliments which may have serious problem with use of nicotine, such as heart disease, lung diseases (such as asthma, COPD), thyroid problem, kidney disease, diabetes etc. If you develop any of the symptoms of nicotine overdose listed above, consult your doctor immediately.
