How Genetics Influence Muscle Growth

There are many ways genetics affects the speed you gain muscle and increase strength. Here are most important of them:

1. Release of testosterone hormone

The most anabolic hormone in the body, testosterones has the biggest influence on building muscle, getting stronger and fast recovery. The more testosterone body releases, the more muscle mass is build.The paradox is that some individuals genetically produce more testosterone than others, without putting too much effort into it, being able to gain muscle mass much faster than other use to do.

With aging this advantage seems to diminish, since the older you get the less testosterone body releases. Having a natural skinny look, ectomorphs find difficult to retain muscle gain, while fat is burn instantly. To add few pounds is a really challenge for them, and suppose a smart and individual approach to training and diet that have to be followed.

You will never see a massive ectomorph. For this reason some people tell that their place is not in bodybuilding, but it’s not so. The strong point in their case if that they already have a low body fat percentage, hence no need for cutting stages. Muscle fiber types and their ratio

There are two types of muscle fibers: fast-twitch and slow-twitch. Despite both of them have the ability to build muscle, fast twitch fibers are present a better growth. The distribution and amount of these fibers is genetically, so the more fast-twitch fibers you have the easier you gain muscle mass. More than this, these fibers are also randomly distributed on the body. Therefore, it may happen that due to higher concentration of fast twitch fibers in the upper or lower body part these areas develop differently. In result we can have big shoulders and skinny legs or anything else.

Skeletal frame

There is a big difference between individuals with large or medium frame and those with small one. Building impressive amounts of muscle mass and looking really big for a person with small skeletal frame is quite hard, if not impossible. On the other hand, those with large skeletal frame are evidently advantaged, gaining muscle happens faster and easier for them.

Genetics may limit you in the gains you are able to make. But worse than this can be the lack of strong determination to hit your goal and reach your limits.
