Brush for Good Dental Health
Good health is combination of good habits and this is no exception for good dental health too. For good health you (and we all) should follow some good and healthy habits. If you have more good habits than other individuals you will be healthier than others. But we ignore some common good habits and do not follow them. Good is generally simple and very easy to follow.
Brush your teeth before bedtime:
This is one of the good health habits a person can have for healthy teeth. Brushing your teeth after every meal and of course before going to bed is the best way to keep your dental health good. But unfortunately very few of us brush after every meal. If you can not brush after every meal make sure to brush after breakfast and before going to bed and this habit can keep your teeth and dental health good. More than two third of people have some dental health problem and most of these problems are due to not following simple habits such as brushing after meal and before going to bed. Regular brushing prevents plaque formation and tooth decay and also help in preventing gum diseases.

Prevention of Dental Caries
Regular dental checkups are needed to detect cavities early. If pain and swelling have developed, it means the cavity has progressed to tooth pulp and complications have set in. You may then need a root canal treatment (RCT) and may lose the tooth eventually. It is recommended to get dental check up every six months.
Once a cavity develops, the primary treatment is drilling and filling. If the cavity is very deep, a temporary filling can be done and left in place for six to eight weeks in the hope that the tooth will itself begin to produce restorative dentin. If no improvement is seen permanent filling is done. Permanent fillings can be made of many materials. The most common is amalgam, a combination of silver, tin, copper and mercury. A well-done filling can last any where from 15 to 40 years. Fears about mercury poisoning have resulted in the use of other materials like porcelain and colorless resins . But these materials tend to harden, soften, shrink or expand when exposed to heat or cold. They do not last as long as amalgam does. If the tooth is badly damaged, a root canal treatment may have to be done and a crown fashioned of porcelain or gold fitted in the tooth.Categories: Dental Health Tags:
Dental Caries: an Understanding
What is the commonest disease in the world ? This is a question quite tricky, not easy to answer and the answer is not obesity, heart disease or diabetes. It is dental caries. Tooth decay or caries occurs in a staggering 98 per cent of the world's population. Age is no bar for dental caries and cavities can occur in childhood in the deciduous (milk) teeth as well. In adults cavities usually appear in the early twenties.
Unfortunately, cavities or dental caries is not symptomatic in the early stages. There may only be pots in teeth that are detected during a regular dental check-up, which is generally not many taken seriously, a very sad thing. The diagnosis may be established at that time by probing the enamel surface or with an X-ray. As the cavity progresses, there may be pain or tooth sensitivity while eating or drinking sweet, hot or cold items. Discolored pits may form which finally leads to pus formation around a tooth.Categories: Dental Health Tags:
